Hypnosis is a widely acknowledged process that can change the lives of many, by using hypnosis you can change your ways of life to be happier, healthier and more personally satisfying.

Hypnosis is created when a person is so intensely focused that it creates a freedom within the unconscious mind to act beyond the normal restrictions of what the conscious mind deems possible, real and proper

Hypnosis training is best started by learning about the past and present of hypnosis itself. The history of hypnosis reaches centuries back; it wasn’t until the 1880s that hypnosis advanced from the Dark Ages and into a more scientific realm.

It was then that a Scottish neurosurgeon by the name of James Braid came up with the term hypnotism. Not only is James Braid responsible for coining the term hypnotism he is also responsible for the study that proved that hypnotism was not a product of magnetic fluids flowing through our bodies.

Braid spent time studying Animal Magnetism and Mesmerism and concluded from those studies that hypnosis could be induced by anyone as long as they followed a certain set of simple rules.

As Braid experimented and studied hypnosis he coined the term hypnosis for reasons that the subjects undergoing it looked to be sleepy. After further study he found that one could be hypnotized and still be wide awake, at this time he attempted to change the term hypnotism to monoidealism; mono- meaning one, and idealism for the focus on a particular idea.

This term made better sense as the act of hypnosis is created by complete focus on one idea to the extent that it eventually becomes a reality for the subject. The term monoidealism did not take and hence today hypnosis is still known as hypnosis.

As James Braid has shown us through history there are rules to follow and steps to take to induce a person into a hypnotic state. These steps are known today as the 4 Stage Formula. The 4 Stage Formula begins with Stage 1, to Absorb Attention. Absorbing attention is simply to capture the focus of your subject.

This requires intense concentration and the ability to draw your subject into you and to keep them following your lead with suggestions and language, after you have accomplished this you can move on to the second stage.

The second stage of the 4 Stage Formula is to Bypass the Critical Factor. Critical factor is known in hypnosis as the reasoning of the conscious mind that says, this is not possible.

Resistance to hypnotic trance is created when the critical factor stands between your subject and their hypnotic state. This must be bypassed in order for your subject to respond to you on an unconscious level.

Once you have bypassed the critical factor, which you will learn as we move through different articles, you will be able to present hypnotic suggestions in the form of advice. As long as no critical factor is standing in the way the suggestions will resonate with your subject and the advice will come out through the conscious mind and take effect.

After you have bypassed all critical factors stage 3 of the 4 Stages is to Activate an Unconscious Response. Activating unconscious responses is your sign that you have successfully led your subject into a hypnotic state.

Any unconscious response is a positive sign for you as a hypnotist, as well as for your client, because you are doing your job. Unconscious response can vary; a good example of an unconscious response is an emotional response.

Emotional responses are derived from an unconscious level, you have no choice in your emotions they are simply a product of your unconscious reacting to and implementing the thinking and understandings you posses.

Make sure to note that if you are dealing with a subject that is in a heightened state of emotion, say a breakup or recent loss, the subject is already in their own hypnotic process.

You as the hypnotist will have no control over a person in hypnotic process of which you are not the authority. They will not listen to you or attempt to follow your suggestions, they are immune to your reasoning and need time to emerge from the state they are in before you can induce a hypnotic state of which you are in control of.

You must be able to access and retrieve a response from the unconscious before you can begin working toward any desired outcome. This brings us to the fourth and final step in the 4 Stages; the fourth stage is to Lead Unconscious to Desired Outcome.

This step is simple to explain really it is as it sounds. Once you have your subject in a hypnotic state and have accomplished the three previous stages you will lead your subject through their unconscious by way of suggestions to obtain your desired outcome. When you successfully combine all four of the 4 Stage Formula you will be engaging with your subject in a conversational hypnotic interaction.

If you’re reading this article, then you’ve probably been in a relationship that didn’t work out. It probably ended in a breakup that happened despite your sincerest efforts, and no amount of thinking could tell you why it went wrong, especially when you did everything right.

Well, it doesn’t really matter what you did wrong or right fixing a rocky relationship is possible, and very doable in four steps. Here they are:

#1: Get Out Of The Downward Spiral. In your last rocky relationship, you’ve probably noticed how you could never seem to fix things. Everything you did seemed to make things worse, no matter how good your intentions were. You were in a downward spiral that was heading straight for a breakup.

You need to get out of this downward spiral in order to really fix things. I’m sure you’ve experienced seeing one of your girl friends insisting on staying with her boyfriend, even when the guy seemed to be the world’s biggest jerk. The thing is, she can’t see him as a jerk when she’s in the relationship. Similarly, you’ll need to look at your own rocky relationship from an outside perspective from a third person’s point of view to finally see what’s up. When you do, then you can find a better solution to your problems.

#2: Put Your Feet On The Ground. When you don’t feel good about yourself, you’re not at your best when dealing with other people. Similarly, if you don’t feel good about your relationship, then you’re probably going to do badly when you try to fix things with him.

It’s important to ground yourself before dealing with these problems. Just like how a warm bath, a workout, or deep breathing can clear your mind and solve problems better, they can also help ground yourself into a more positive and loving state of mind and this is the state of mind you’d want to be in when dealing with someone you love.

#3: Plan Your Approach. As kids, we’re used to letting our emotions control us. After a tumultuous midway period in adolescence, we then learn to do the reverse and instead control our emotions. It’s an important skill to have, and some would argue that this single skill is responsible for civilization as we know it!

I guess that’s the reason why we argue like cavemen in relationships!

This skill sort of takes a back seat when we’re in a relationship, leaving us susceptible to making bad choices and unreasonable reactions. In other words, it’s very important to keep your cool when dealing with a rocky relationship if you let your emotions control you, then you’re more likely to lash out at him and he’ll be less likely to stick around.

#4: Lastly, Live In The Present. Not many people are used to living in the present. Some long for the good times past, while others endlessly worry about the future. Such states of mind bring unnecessary stress into a relationship, and may even cause breakups. If you’ll learn to love what you have and not worry too much about the past or future, you’ll learn that it’s much easier to fix a rocky relationship than you thought.

A few years ago, Daniel Day-Lewis, the son of a poet and the grandson of the founder of a British movie studio, left the movies behind to find poetry in the making of shoes in Florence, Italy. He was at the top of his game but felt he needed some time off. When he returned to the business, he won a third Academy Award nomination (for 2002s Gangs of New York) and followed it up with his second Oscar, for 2007s There Will Be Blood. It made sense, then, that he would be a good choice for the role of an Italian filmmaker who is concerned that he is burned out.

The movie Nine, which opens on December 25, is based on the Broadway musical of the same name. Both are set in 1965 and follow the plight of director Guido Contini as he tries to make a movie while dealing with the emotional baggage of a full life. In addition to Day-Lewis, the film stars Nicole Kidman, Marion Cotillard, Judi Dench, Kate Hudson, Penlope Cruz, Sophia Loren, and Stacy Ferguson. In a New York City hotel room, Day-Lewis says that although he was apprehensive about taking on the part, he could relate to it.

The tone of the script was beautiful, but I had concerns that I could appreciate it from the outside without being drawn into the world he was describing. But anyone who does any kind of creative work at some time in their lives knows that as you grow into middle age, you come to a time where you question whether you have anything else to offer. You feel utterly bereft of whatever creative force it takes to do that work. I suppose I was interested in that dilemma for a man who is about to shoot a film but is living in a wasteland of his own making.

Although Day-Lewis was able to find a way into the character of Contini, the second part of the equation was more challenging. Guido daydreams that his life is a musical. And he sings. Day-Lewis had never sung in a movie before, and he told the films director, Rob Marshall, that he may have chosen the wrong man for the role.

I tried to convince him not to hire me because I thought he should use someone else, he says. I even gave him some names, but he said, I think you can sing. So I said, Lets put it to the test, and Paul Bogaev, our musical director, and I tried to stagger through the songs. Quite clearly, I was incapable of singing them, but Rob still managed to convince me that it would be okay. I took the job on blind trust but had severe doubts about it. I had no idea of what the work would be like. I was a choirboy at the local church when I was a schoolboy, but other than that, I hadnt done anything like that.

As the preeminent purveyor of nifty techno-fantasy wrapped in spiky individualism, James Cameron is, arguably, our generations Robert Heinlein. He has shown us distinct yet admiring scenarios of the military in Terminator, Aliens, and even The Abyss. After his detour into Titanic, Cameron returns to genre storytelling with Avatar, the adventures of space marine Jake Sully on the moon Pandora.

A self-admitted dumb grunt, and recently rendered paraplegic, Jake (Sam Worthington) is on Pandora to persuade the unfriendly natives to part with their valuable minerals. To do this, the humans have established a research lab where they operate a small number of custom-fitted avatars. These are fleshly automatons who look like the skinny blue aliens and are piloted remotely. In the lab, Jake deals with a skeptical scientist (Sigourney Weaver) and a scheming colonel (Stephen Lang). On Pandora, he fights to survive innumerable vicious predators while attempting to make rapport with the Navi, the indigenous people. In particular, Jake tries to make nice with Neytiri, the hot daughter (Zo Saldana) of a Navi chief.

Plotwise, Avatar is a little undercooked. The moment that avatar Jake meets the Navi elders and feels their withering contempt for his so-called civilized ignorance of their environment-embracing ways, you know what will happen over the next two-plus hours: its Dances With Wolves in space.

If youre not into heroes riding into battle on the backs of gigantic, neon-orange bird creatures, Avatar is probably not your kind of movie. It worked for me, though. Even after the years spent developing 3-D motion-capture technology just for this movie, Cameron retains a gift for action scenarios, providing high-energy pulp adventure in a fantasy world that is almost goofy in its layers of minute detail. Avatar is not graceful or deep, but its call to my giddy inner 12-year-old will bring me back to the movie sooner rather than later.

These days we are experiencing a growing awareness to the fact that our energy resources, as they have been used in the last few years, are probably not going to last for long and that the energy markets are exposed to more and more rapid changes, some due to political reasons and others because of the changing climate of the planet. The main conclusion that we all need to get to is that all sources of energy should be explored and that we should harness the forces of nature to assist us in this quest.

Solar power is not a new concept, it has been properly introduced to the global public many years ago and successfully implemented in different parts of the world in different ways, so it is fairly safe to say that solar power is known to most people, but it is still not as popular as it should be, as a cheap replacement for other sources of energy. The energy of the sun, from its direct sun rays that are projected directly at the earth or by giant wind turbines is free fro us to use, to manipulate for our needs, and this can be done by almost anyone in any place, it just needs to technology and the know-how.

The most successful way that solar energy has been used up till today is in water heating and heating in general, the way to use the solar power to heat water is by holding water in a tank that is located in a place that is exposed to the sun, during the day the sun warms the tank and increases the temperature of the water, the tank than preserves the heat and the hot water can be used late at night, hours after the sun had heated the water, this is due to a simple concept of heat preservation. The trick is in the orientation of the home, the placement of windows and the materials used. It is fairly simple and can save you a ton of money on your utility bills.

The Law Of Attraction turns out to be the big one. It’s the basis of everything. Simply put the law is - “We attract into our experience that, and only that, which we think about - whether wanted or unwanted”. This means that whatever we give our energy, attention or focus, will inevitably be drawn to us.

The corollary is the Law Of No Assertion - “Nobody and nothing can assert anything into our experience which is not a match to our vibration”. This means that nobody or nothing, (including God, fate, friends, family, governments, strangers, tsunamis, star signs etc. etc.) can cause us to experience something that does not resonate with what we are thinking.

Another way of stating this law (putting it in terms more closely aligned with the language of modern physics) is the Law Of Alternate Realities - “We choose which reality to step into by the things we give our energy, focus and attention”. This last version appeals to me - but pick whichever version suits you - they all mean the same thing - we create our own reality.

Now let’s think a little more on that “whether wanted or unwanted” piece from the Law Of Attraction above.

We all have an Emotional Scale. To simplify, we either feel good or we feel bad. If we’re not feeling good, then what we’re including in our thoughts is what we don’t want. The Emotional Scale runs from Depression-Grief-Fear-Anger-Frustration-Annoyance-Boredom Where we’re thinking about what we Don’t want through to Contentment-Interest-Happiness-Excitement-Passion-Ecstasy where we’re thinking about what we DO want.

To put it another way - the Universe hears no negatives. So if we are fearful that something might happen, we are attracting it. Nothing - nada - zilch - is more important than feeling good. Our “work” therefore is to get ourselves to the place where we focus on what we want - to move ourselves up the scale from:

Worry -> Hope -> Optimism -> Confidence -> Certainty.

The more we can move >>> to the right hand end of the scale, the faster we can manifest what we really want.

So what were spending our time thinking about is all-important. And so is how were thinking about it. For every subject, we have a resonant point of attraction. If you want to know where you are on any subject, look around. What you’re experiencing is where you’re resonating.

For a minute, pick a topic on which youd like some change in your life. For example say money. Is your first reaction not enough? Every time something you’d like-to-have flashes into your awareness, is the like-to-have immediately drowned out by cant-afford-it? Or do you get into a feeling of delicious anticipation?

So where does action - doing things - fit into all of this? Well first we need to understand what I call the BE-DO-HAVE principle.

In the world I was raised in, action was all important. It didnt matter whether I wanted to do it, or felt like doing it - I needed the self-discipline to do it anyway. With a combination of hard work and being lucky enough to be in the right place at the right time, maybe things would turn out OK. Well according to the Law Of Attraction, thats all hooey. There’s no such thing as “luck”, and there are no “accidents”. Our actions in themselves cannot get us what we want.

But - the Universe is a powerful orchestrator. It always responds to our thoughts and always has us in the right place at the right time. To take advantage of this, we have to reverse the process - to Be-Do-Have.

If we can see/feel/imagine ourselves where we want to BE, then we’ll be inspired to DO the things that will allow us to HAVE all that we want (more on BE-DO-HAVE later).

So - if we look at the way successful people order their lives, we see that many directly acknowledge this Law Of Attraction. Others, as you begin to see the principles they live by, inherently take advantage of it. That is they clearly order their lives according to its principles. Also, there are legions of books on this subject - either directly acknowledging the Law Of Attraction, or giving principles and procedures that are in line with it. In summary, what they all say is - spend time visualizing what you want, and it will appear.
